January 16, 2025
On Red Wednesday, November 27, 2024, at 7:00 AM, the Saint Mary Magdalene School community in Kawit, Cavite, gathered for a solemn observance in support of persecuted Christians around the world. Students, faculty, and staff united on school grounds to honor those enduring suffering and oppression for their faith.
The event was centered on prayer, reflection, and a show of solidarity. From Kindergarten to Grade 12, students participated in a communal recitation of the Holy Rosary, a powerful symbol of faith and unity. This collective prayer not only expressed the school’s deep compassion for those suffering for their beliefs but also served as a reminder of the ongoing struggles faced by persecuted Christians globally.
Following the rosary, a poignant candle-lighting ceremony took place. Each candle’s flickering flame symbolizes hope, resilience, and the enduring spirit of Christians who continue to face persecution. The ceremony created a moment of collective reflection, allowing participants to stand in solidarity with those whose religious freedoms are threatened.
This observance was designed to foster empathy and deepen students' understanding of the importance of religious freedom. By joining together in prayer and reflection, the school community not only honored the sacrifices of persecuted Christians but also raised awareness about the challenges many still face due to their faith. The event underscored the message that religious persecution remains a global issue that requires ongoing advocacy and support.
Saint Mary Magdalene School’s Red Wednesday observance aligns with its mission of nurturing compassionate, informed, and caring future leaders. The event also reinforced the importance of respecting the right to religious freedom and embracing diverse beliefs, encouraging students to become thoughtful, respectful, and empathetic individuals in an increasingly diverse world.
